A cyclist has been killed following a serious road accident, which took place outside Rathcormac at 7am on Friday morning, March 6.
Gardaí confirmed that the incident occurred on the R639, just outside Rathcormac.
Community in shock
A source informed The Avondhu that the cyclist, who was a regular user of that road, had been struck by a SUV. Local emergency services attended the scene.
The local community is reported to be in shock following the tragic incident.
Gardaí noted that the R639 is closed, with local diversions in place.

Route 245
Bus Éireann has stated that the road closure along the N8 has meant that its 245 bus route is currently ‘unable to serve Rathcormac in both directions.’
It goes on to advise customers from Rathcormac that they can access ‘Route 245 in Fermoy or Watergrasshill.”
