Fr. Pat Butler celebrated Mass in Mocollop graveyard on Tuesday evening this week. Present was a 60/70 strong crowd – the bulk of whom have relatives interred in this ancient site.
A location of some historical and archaeological interest, Mocollop, near Ballyduff Upper, was once a vibrant parish, complete with occupied castle, active church, busy national school and extensive orchards. Today, it’s a quiet, rural area – the once prominent church and castle in ruins.
Addressing worshippers, Fr. Butler said it was ‘a noble act’ to pray over the graves of so many men, women and children.
