Ballyduff Drama Group, directed by Ger Canning, were crowned RTÉ All-Ireland Drama champions for their performance of ‘The Blackwater Lightship’ by Colm Tóibín, adapted for stage by David Horan, at the Gala Awards ceremony in Athlone’s Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday, 17th May.

Director, Ger Canning, said the announcement was a ‘shock’ to the group on the night, who have now claimed three wins in the past 4 years.

“It was a bit of a shock to win again because we’ve now won three out of four over the last four years. That was the biggest shock. I don’t know how it happened that way.

“It is a great testament to the whole team, the committee, the crew and the cast,” Ms Canning told The Avondhu
