On Saturday evening last, June 21, the longest day of the year, the Annual Corpus Christi Procession took place through the streets of the town.

It was one of the finest evenings of our current spell of fine weather, and it was very heartening to see so many taking part. It brought back memories of the processions of long ago when our Summers were so warm that the tar would melt on the road, once again the people of the town rose to the occasion, with many windows and shop fronts being decorated with flowers and also some with religious paintings by the late Maurice Mannix.

The Benediction took place in the Town Park, surely Fermoy's jewel in the crown, ablaze with all the shrubs, flowers and trees in their full Summer regalia, a credit to all who work so hard to ensure that it always looks at its best.

The celebrant of the Benediction was Rev Fr O'Driscoll, assisted by Rev Father Casey and Rev Fr Lynch, the responses and hymns were sung by members of Fermoy Parish Choir.

The Administrator of the Parish of Fermoy, Rev Fr Casey thanked all who had helped to make the Annual Procession such a very special occasion; all who had decorated their houses along the way, the Fermoy Concert Band, the Fermoy Scouts, the Parish Choir, the Gardai and the stewards and anyone who helped in any way.

He congratulated all the school children who had made their First Holy Communion and also their teachers before giving the Final Blessing, it was surely a measure of the success of the occasion that so many lingered on afterwards, savouring the flavour of the Summer evening.
