The Corpse Bride – an impressive body of work

‘Dead’ cast members outnumber ‘live’ cast members in the Brideview Drama production of ‘The Corpse Bride’ which commenced its run in Tallow Community Centre last weekend.

Prioritising those who are no longer with us is a novel theatrical move, however, Liam Roche (director) and Jack Aherne (producer) are never afraid to push the boundaries.

OTHER WORLDLY

Chief among the ‘dead’ is the corpse bride herself (Ellen Ryan) who seems perfectly at home in the other world. While there are occasional macabre scenes, the end result isn’t overly gory and as the play progresses, we are increasingly drawn to characters such as the gravedigger (Martin Sheehan), Mr Bonejangles (Martin Murphy) and even Black Widow Spider (Emily Aherne). And what’s not to like about a ‘dead’ band (The Boneshakers) ably played by Bella Grey, Ciabhan O’Connell and Ben Grey.
