With just two weeks to go, the Anglesboro Drama Group are busy putting the final touches to their upcoming production. This year the group have chosen Michael J Ginnelly’s ‘A Wake In The West’. Under the guidance of accomplished director Willie Carr, the show will open on Thursday, March 21st in the local community hall and continue on 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
Set in a country house in the west coast of Ireland, the play centres around the death of Tom Healy and how his family come to terms with his last wishes. His daughter, Mary, who has cared for him and son, Martin, who has come home from America for the funeral, are finding it difficult to deal with their father’s unusual request. Mary has great support in her neighbour and friend Joan, who herself has a past history with Martin and is wondering what the future holds for them both. Tom’s old drinking pal Barney and his long suffering wife Margaret are also in the picture, as is the town’s nosey parker Rose Davitt, who will stop at nothing to get what she wants and we mean nothing! Throw in Fr Cassidy and the local doctor, Dr John, and the result is a laugh a minute comedy, that’s sure to have the audience falling off their seats!!
Though originally written for his local drama group, such was the popularity of the play, that the author has seen ‘A Wake In The West’ performed on stages all over the world. It is currently enjoying a successful run in both Boston and Chicago.
The show will commence at 8.30pm sharp each night. Admission is €8 per adult and €3 per child and there will be complimentary tea and coffee at half time. There has been a lot of enquiries thus far, so booking is advisable. This can be done by contacting 087 7534006. You can also follow us on www.facebook.com/anglesborodrama
