There’s “a stand off” in relation to the issue of Cork County Council taking in charge the Dun Eala estate in Fermoy, a recent meeting of the Fermoy electoral area committee of Cork County Council was told, by area engineer Brendan O’Gorman.

Cllr Noel McCarthy had a motion before the meeting, calling for an up-to-date report on the matter. He was told by the area engineer that there had been no change since the last query about it. No application to take the estate in charge has been made by the developer to Cork County Council.

He described the estate as “one of the better unfinished estates in the division” and pointed out that there are no health and safety issues there. A snag list remains to be completed but the only real issue causing delay is the unresolved situation regarding a retaining wall in the crescent.

STALLED

The engineer told members that progress has halted and all communication between the developers, Brompton Homes and the residents had ceased following legal proceedings being taken by one of the residents against both the developer and Cork County Council.

Residents can request the county council to take an estate in charge, the engineer explained, if 50% of the residents agree. He would query whether it can be done while legal proceedings are on-going and would report back.
