Thirty-three people took the plunge and participated in the Jump for Joy parachute jump to raise funds for Pieta House on Saturday last.

There was a mixture of nerves and excitement in The Irish Parachute Club in Clonbollogue in Offaly, as participants waited their turn to take that leap of faith.

The Jump for Joy was the brainchild of John and Majella Roche of Londis in Doneraile and the initiative was generously backed by the Londis group as a whole, with a large contingent from Doneraile taking part with others from all over the country.

It was a family affair for the Roches as well, as John, Majella and their four children all took part.

So far, they have raised €25,000 for Pieta House through the Jump for Joy initiative.

As part of their fundraising, the Roche’s held a lottery for a pair of tickets to see Bruce Springsteen, which were won by John Doyle.

“It was a wonderful day and we thank all of the Londis shops and head office for joining us and all of our customers who contributed so generously to our fundraiser,” John Roche said.
