If you haven’t heard by now, ‘Cycle Against Suicide’ is arriving to Mitchelstown on Thursday, 7th May, 2015. This will involve 700 to 1,000 cyclists making their way through the town between 12.00 – 13.00 and stopping off at St Fanahan’s College for lunch, entertainment and a céad mile fáilte. However, this is only part of the story.

The day will begin in the school with students taking part in various workshops that promote positive mental health. Students will be involved in fitness classes; mindfulness sessions; informative talks from experts; nutrition seminars; music sessions; art therapy classes and yoga classes just to mention a few, and while this is happening, other students and staff will be busy in the kitchen preparing hundreds of hot lunches and setting up the afternoon’s entertainment.

After this, they are going to line the streets of the town with the help of some local primary school students, and invite the whole community to join them in this. The cyclists will be welcomed to the school with the sound of music and entertainment provided by the extremely talented students from St.Fanahan’s, before sitting down for a hot meal, plenty of healthy snacks and much needed water.

While their guests are dining, students and staff will continue to entertain all who join them for the event before a series of speeches from organisers and celebrities involved with the event. There will be an array of information regarding local and national support services regarding mental health for anyone who wishes to find out more about what supports are available.

The event will finish with the cyclists setting off to their next stop at Loreto Secondary School, Clonmel. For more information regarding this influential awareness raising campaign go to www. cycleagainstsuicide.com.

In addition to the event, they will be working closely with local and national businesses, companies, services, schools, committees and media. St Fanahan’s College, Mitchelstown thank all who have contributed so far and are reaching out to the community for further support in relation to this. If anyone wishes to contribute in some way, they can contact Paula at St Fanahan’s. Any support is appreciated so that ‘together we can break the cycle of suicide’.
