Speeding driver on M8 tests positive for cocaine during Slow Down Day

High speeds were again witnessed on the M8 in the Kilworth area earlier this week, as National Slow Down Day was in operation to curbe speed and keep our roads safe.

On the M8 at Ballinglanna, north of Kilworth, a vehicle was detected travelling 151km/h in a 120km/h zone. Gardaí confirmed that the driver of the vehicle also tested positive for cocaine and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Following a recent spate of tragic road deaths, Gardaí conducted a national speed enforcement operation supported by the Road Safety Authority for a 24-hour period. The National Slow Down Day ran from 7am on Monday through until 7am on Tuesday morning.
