New motions passed at the SouthDoc Board of Directors AGM could see the Fermoy SouthDoc Treatment Centre put under significant pressure as as many as one-third of doctors will no longer be able to participate.

These motions state that pregnant doctors and doctors on maternity leave should be excluded from SouthDoc rotas, and that doctors over 60 years of age should be excluded from rotas and SouthDoc should pay for the locum.

In a letter sent to The Avondhu by Dr E Parker and Dr P Burke, Medina Medical, they highlighted this issue stating: “If the other Out-of-Hours Service providers and the HSE adopted such ludicrous measures, the whole system would collapse.”

“Our prime concern is that with so many GPs excluded from the rota, rotas will be unfilled and treatment centres will have to close,” the letter read.
