Long-serving Conna National School Special Needs Assistant (SNA) Eileen Roche was hailed as “simply the best” by her former colleague, recently retired headmaster Michael Mulcahy, during an emotional send-off for Ms Roche at the school this week.

The retiring SNA was serenaded by each class group in turn, in a moving ceremony held in the school playground on a memorably sunny day on Tuesday.

Fellow staff spoke warmly of Ms Roche’s long years of service and her relentless dedication in helping her charges, as well as the many skills and talents she brought to the rural school.
