The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) were called out last Saturday evening, as two walkers found themselves lost on the Galtee Mountains as they approached the range from the Cush carpark.
SEMRA received a call from gardaí at about 6.15pm; the walkers had been out since early in the day but had been ‘caught out’ by the early onset of the evening darkness.
Both SEMRA and the Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) responded and the first search party were on the hill just after 7pm. The rescue organisation used ‘phone find’ technology to pinpoint the walkers’ location but they were still difficult to either see or hear, due to the dark and windy conditions on the mountain. Eventually, however, the wet and cold walkers were found and helped off the mountain to a local farmyard, where they were driven back to their own car in the carpark in a SEMRA Land Rover, after a check by the team doctor.
