Saturday last marked a momentous occasion for Kilworth Celtic FC (KCFC) as after some 25 years, the club officially opened their very own state-of-the-art grounds, Sheila Flynn Park.

KCFC was first founded following an inaugural meeting in 1996 at the village hall regarding the concept of starting a soccer club in the village. Land was originally provided by the late Tom Cotter and family, which allowed the club to operate successfully.

Saturday’s official opening began with the arrival of the Cavalry Corps CRV to much excitement, especially among the children present. Danny Murphy (Cork City Women’s FC manager) and Becky Cassin (Cork City Women’s FC captain) attended and gave an inspirational address to the girls of the club. KCFC are striving to make football more accessible to girls of all ages, so their attendance was a major boost to girls in the area.
