Doneraile’s Shantelle Sheehan scooped the Junior Female Competitor of the Year award at this year’s Cork Martial Arts Promotions awards 2017/18 at the Gresham Metropole Hotel, Cork City.

The awards ceremony has grown from humble beginnings with the coveted ‘Coach of the Year award’ being issued alone, to the current 15 award gala event, referred to as the ‘Oscar’s of the martial arts’ by those who have attended through the years.

The event was a night to remember for Shantelle and her family, capping off yet another remarkable year for the talented teenager.

Shantelle’s mam Mairead, said that for Shantelle to be told on the night that she’s the best of the best in all of Munster, made her night. “We are so proud of her and what she has achieved so far. She’s off to the European championships in Slovenia in April. We know she will try her best and hopefully she will come back with a medal.”

Shantelle was amongst Cork’s great martial arts instructors, coaches and practitioners who were honoured on the night.
