Cork County Council is inviting members of the public to have their say on the route corridor options for the proposed Cork to Kinsale Greenway. Five route corridor options and two links for the proposed greenway have been developed following a successful public consultation in February and the completion of Phase 1, concept and feasibility stage.

Funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) Greenway programme, the project is proposing to provide a Greenway between Cork City and Kinsale.

The second public consultation is being held online through the project website and is now open for submissions. There will also be two in-person public consultation events, one at The Viaduct, Old Bandon Road, Cork on Tuesday, 17th  September and one at Acton’s, Kinsale on Wednesday, 18th September.

This project is currently at Phase 2 Options Selection which involves examining potential route corridor options to determine a preferred route corridor option. During this stage, all reasonable/feasible route corridor options are examined and interrogated to identify a preferred route corridor option. The progression of the project, to Phase 3 and beyond, is subject to TII approval and funding availability, as well as securing the necessary statutory consents including planning.

“This is a significant project that aims to provide a sustainable, accessible, safe and attractive Greenway for locals and visitors to travel between two important tourist locations,” stated Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll. “I am encouraging members of the public to have their say, to view the maps and to engage with the team behind this project. It is vital that we have community input at every stage.”

OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS

The public consultation is now open online at www.corkkinsalegreenway.ie and will be available for five weeks, until Sunday, 13th October.

The in-person events will be held at The Viaduct Restaurant & Bar, Old Bandon Road, Co. Cork on Tuesday, 17th  September from 1pm to 8pm and at Acton’s Hotel, Kinsale on Wednesday, 18th  September from 1pm to 8pm.

Alternatively, submissions can be made by post to Greenways, Cork National Roads Office, Richmond, Glanmire, Cork, T45 WA44.
