As the funeral for young Matthew Healy, late of Ballygunner, County Waterford and Watergrasshill, County Cork got underway locally on Wednesday, Gardaí issued a statement in relation to online posts seeking to take advantage of what is a tragic and sensitive time for all concerned.

Gardaí stated that they were aware of posts circulating on social media advertising the live streaming of the funeral Mass due to take place in the parish of Watergrasshill and Glenville.

Links posted by the scam artists included a prompt for users to click on, in order to watch the Mass, however, it is understood that such links led to ‘phishing’ operations seeking email addresses and personal information from unsuspecting users, who were then redirected to a webpage to capture their personal information.
