Not only do the trees and large branches that float down stream have a negative visual impact on the town of Fermoy and its most attractive feature, so too does the amount of litter and waste that collects within the trees on the River Blackwater.

One concerned local resident contacted The Avondhu this week to express their regret that the litter was not removed before the Fermoy Rowing Club Regatta last weekend.

“There were many tourists in Fermoy over the weekend and they would have been based along the quays and looking onto the river from the bridge, so this rubbish would really have stuck out.”

Cork County Council have been made aware of the issue.
