Current sixth class pupils in Galbally National School. Preparations are well advanced for a 50th annivesary reunion which takes place in The Shamrock Lounge, Kilross on Saturday October 22nd at 8pm. (John Ahern)

50 years ago, teachers and pupils made the move from the ‘old’ school to the ‘new’. The ‘new’ facility replaced a structure that had served the village well for generations.

In the interim, hundreds of children have been educated to a very high standard. Thanks to the efforts and commitment of teachers, former students of Galbally NS have gone on to occupy top posts in a variety of professions.

To mark half a century plus of primary school education in Galbally, an organising committee under the direction of current principal, Martin Kearney, have organised a reunion/social night that takes place in The Shamrock Lounge, Kilross on Saturday, October 22 at 8pm.

The celebrations also include launching a book that chronicles major school events over the 50 years.

Tickets retailing at €10 and are available locally. It promises to be a wonderful evening and anyone with an association with either old or new school is welcome to attend.

Kim’s People, a band with a close association to the school are providing music with a disco to follow courtesy of another past pupil, Tom Cussen.
