Organisers believe that this year’s ‘switch on’ of the Christmas lights in Fermoy last weekend attracted a record attendance. ‘Lights’ chairman, Cllr Noel McCarthy, told The Avondhu that the crowd was ‘absolutely massive’.

“I’ve never witnessed a crowd like that before, they came in droves from both sides of the town, it was a brilliant occasion. A huge word of thanks to Synergy Credit Union for their support, the fireworks were spectacular,” he said.

CHRISTMAS HAS STARTED

Among its other functions, the ‘switch on’ signals the official start of Christmas – a hugely important time for local businesses – a theme echoed by the Glanworth based Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn.
