Record breaker as Dillon comes home in under 50 hours

Kildorrery’s Dillon Lynch is celebrating this week as the 17-year-old climber has managed the spectacular feat of climbing the highest peaks in all 32 counties in less than 50 hours, a new record.

The timer began for Mr Lynch’s marathon trip last Thursday evening at 7pm atop Mweelrea in Mayo. From there, he made his way to Benbaun in Galway and was at the peak at almost 9pm. Heading south he was at the top of Carrauntoohill at 4.01am on Friday morning, and had conquered Knockboy, Cork’s highest mountain, by 6.24am.

Describing Carrauntoohill as ‘tough’, he did the climb in darkness with thick fog at the top but was still 10 minutes ahead of time by the time he was done. Driver for the day was his father Patrick O’Brien, with his mother Gillian Lynch on nutrition, social media duties, and a source of motivation!
