The first defibrillator training course recipients have successfully graduated in Mitchelstown.

The course recipients learned life saving skills and as the training for CPR is also quite physically demanding, it is a great achievement for all involved.

The Mitchelstown Defibrillator committee congratulate the recipients, thank those who gave up their time to train and thank the Red Cross for their support and expertise, as facilitators John Burns and Christine Dunne gave the training so much time and dedication.

PUBLIC MEETING

Now that the first course has been completed, the committee hope to continue providing opportunities for the public to train and they will be holding a public meeting on Wednesday, May 25 at 8pm in the Town Hall.

It will be chaired by Moss Fitzgerald, who will speak about his experiences in being involved in such an initiative and he will also advise on how best to maintain and run a system to allow access to the defibrillator at all times.

“It is our vision to develop a core supportive group, which can ensure that an effective system is put in place for the maintenance and running of these defibrillators,” Michelle Burke said, speaking on behalf of the committee. Once a new committee has been formed, dates for future training sessions will be released.

Members of the public who would be interested pre-booking their place for the CPR and defibrillator training course, which will take place over two nights and will cost €45 or those who would like more information on the upcoming public meeting, can contact Michelle on 085-1502008.
