Limerick City and County Council is commencing a public consultation on the review of its Cemetery Bye Laws, which were last updated in 2015.
The consultation is now live and will run until Sunday, 11 January 2026 on the Council’s online consultation portal, Mypoint.Limerick.ie. The review is being undertaken in the context of the Council’s ‘Burial Ground Strategy’ and to address current developments and issues arising. The rights and responsibilities of all key stakeholders will be examined to ensure clarity and fairness.
Objectives of the Review
The objectives of the review are to: engage all stakeholders in shaping a set of bye laws that will be fit for purpose for the next five years; to clarify that any amendments must comply with relevant legislation and regulations; to provide clear information on the current key provisions of the bye laws.
Also, to record feedback and contributions from stakeholders; to formulate and circulate an initial draft for further public input; and finally, to present a final draft to Limerick City and County Council for ratification.
Next Steps
After the consultation, submissions will be reviewed and a draft of the updated Cemetery Bye Laws will be published for public feedback before final approval by Council.
