The world loves Irish butter, in particular 'Kerrygold'. So much so, that it's currently the best selling butter in Germany - the Americans are also tucking in and during 2013 'Kerrygold' was the USA's number one imported butter.

The plan is to get more people layering it on and those promoting this most Irish of products believe that the sky's the limit when it comes to 'spreading' the good news about our butter.

With impeccable dairy credentials, Mitchelstown always had a strong case for being selected as a centre of excellence for butter. This has come to pass and with the Irish Dairy Board providing the all important funding, it's full steam ahead with the planning application which should be ready next month. All going according to plan the project that has the capacity to create 50 new jobs should be up and running during 2016.

The Irish Dairy Board have brought KMPC on board to assist with the application and company director, Karl McCoy was in Mitchelstown Library last Saturday morning to brief the public on this ambitious project - also in attendance was Ronan Smith of RKD Architects.

Both men addressed a variety of queries about the new plant which will be situated close to the existing Dairygold facility in Castlefarm. Visitors learned that there will be a 'small increase' in vehicles accessing the centre, there will be no additional noise generated, no external odours and waste water discharges won't impact negatively on the River Gradogue.

Those that weren't able to get along last Saturday have another chance to learn more about the new facility when Mitchelstown Library hosts an additional public information meeting on Friday, 1st August from 2pm - 4pm.
