Teagasc, Moorepark in Fermoy would be an ideal location as a community vaccination centre because of its ability to store vaccines at -80 degrees centigrade, according to Cork East TD, Seán Sherlock.
As the roll-out of vaccines progresses, between February 8 and February 14, the HSE plan to give around 29,000 vaccinations a week to frontline healthcare workers and those aged 65 years and older who live in long-term care facilities.
According to the HSE, vaccines will be given as the supply arrives in Ireland. There will be no build-up of stock and the rollout of vaccines will only be limited by supply.
However, in the meantime, appropriate facilities are required for the correct storage of the vaccine, which TD Seán Sherlock says Moorepark could provide.
