Following the relocation of An Post to MacCurtain Street in Fermoy which has resulted in an influx of vehicles and pedestrians to this area of town, a number of proposed changes to traffic measures have been proposed to address issues relating to traffic management, set-down areas and disabled parking bays.
“The relocation of the post office to MacCurtain Street has caused difficulties. In some respects it’s to be welcomed because it creates additional footfall on that street,” said senior engineer Brendan O’Gorman at the November meeting of Fermoy Municipal Authority.
He was tasked with preparing a report on the street following concerns by councillors and members of the public over the increased level of traffic.
Clarke Street (by Fitzgibbon’s corner) will change to a one-way street with traffic only allowed entry from MacCurtain Street, on a six-month trial basis commencing in the New Year.
Parking on the left hand side of Clarke Street will be maintained.
