Kilworth Community Playground was re-opened to the public this week and although the much needed refurbishment took a little longer than first expected, the finished results have certainly been worth the wait.

Chairperson of the Village Renewal committee, with responsibility for Tidy Town’s, Cian O’Meara said the work, carried out by Cork County Council, was a job ‘well done’ and the local feeling is that everyone is very happy with it.

A new smaller kids/ toddlers area has been created and some more smaller pieces added.

The whole playground was power hosed on Friday and to add to the ambience of the area, the Council put in new benches in the Square and a superb round bench around the Holm Oak outside the playground! The new contemporary benches replaced the old furniture that had served the public well for many years.

The new round bench outside the playground replaces an old bench that was crafted by Tom O’Brien but Tom’s bench is still in very good condition and it will be used again once a new pin oak tree is planted in the village green.

“We’re very grateful to Cork County Council who took on the responsibility for the maintenance of the playground two years ago,” said Mr O’Meara. “They replaced the damaged play furniture also installed the new furniture in the village. This is very much appreciated by all who use the facility. Many thanks to all involved.”
