There was a warm welcome on Wednesday of the news that the former Paki Fitz Pub in Mitchelstown sold at an online auction on Wednesday for €172,000 – €22,000 over its reserve price of €150,000.

The once popular pub which, some years ago, was seen as the social hub of the town, went under the hammer at the Bid X1 auction. It is reported that there were a number of local bidders but at the time of going to press, the buyer was not known.

The property is situated on the western side of Lower Cork Street at the junction with Roberts Street with a total floor area approximately 929 sq. m (10,000 sq. ft).

Internally the property comprises 3 bars, a restaurant with kitchen, offices and WC facilities.

Speaking about the sale, local auctioneer Eamon O’Brien of CCM Property, wished the new owners well.

“Hopefully the building will be fully refurbished. We are privileged in that our main street is nearly full and the most important thing for the town is that any refurbishment will enhance the streetscape and create a better environment for business around it. We all wish the new owners well.”
