Over €63k raised as 500 swimmers take on Christmas Swim for Caroline

Grace, Laura, Molly and Aimee Kenny were blown away by the support for their sister Caroline and the Gavin Glynn Fundraiser.

“The support we have received from individuals, families, companies and sporting and community organisations has been nothing short of phenomenal,” accordin to Pat Kenny, father to Caroline, a Blackwater Community School student who inspired an estimated 500 swimmers from Ballyduff Upper and Stradbally areas to take to chilly winter waters at Clonea on st Stephen’s Day as part of a fundraising drive.

Caroline, who is 14 years old, is currently undergoing specialist medical treatment in Germany for an inoperable brain tumour, first diagnosed when she was almost five years old.

Supporting the local teenager and in a bid to raise funds for the Gavin Glynn Foundation, brave swimmers took to the Celtic Sea on the frosty morning, where sand artist Sean Corcoran of The Art Hand, Bunmahon created 1,000 hearts on the strand to mark the event and send an amazing message of love to Caroline and her mother, Breda who are currently in Essen, Germany.
