Minister for Education, Norma Foley, is being called on by Cork East TD, Sean Sherlock, to ensure that there are sufficient school places in North Cork for September this year, specifically in Fermoy and Mitchelstown.

Last week, The Avondhu reported that two local secondary schools in Fermoy have been oversubscribed, one of which had just 168 places available to incoming first-year students, having received a total of 303 applications.

“Families are contacting me who still don’t have places for this September. The Minister must acknowledge the position schools find themselves in. I am calling on the Department to ensure a supply of adequate accommodation and ensure that no student is left behind within their locality,” Deputy Sherlock told The Avondhu.
