Recent flooding in Rathcormac was at the top of the agenda for this week’s Northern Committee meeting as Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn and Cllr William O’Leary, tabled motions seeking relief for the local village.
Mayor O’Flynn motioned that Cork County Council call upon the Office of Public Works (OPW) to release individual schemes from the second tranche of CFRAMs, a flood alleviation scheme proposed by the OPW, and prioritise the villages that were impacted by the recent severe flooding events, such as in Rathcormac.
“Rathcormac has suffered quite a lot in the last couple of years, but definitely in the last five weeks. There’s quite a lot of residents there, and some businesses there impacted. It’s inhibiting development of local businesses getting planning and also extra houses which are very much needed in the area.
