An Post have said that there ‘is not’ a backlog of mail to be delivered, while confirming to The Avondhu that there have been some unavoidable disruptions to its service across the Fermoy area.

It is understood that the Fermoy sorting district have experienced staff shortages recently due to varying reasons, which has allegedly created delays in mail delivery. The issue is believed to extend beyond Fermoy, with several other districts in the country experiencing staff shortages also.

Several complaints have been noted locally in the Ballynoe, Rathcormac, Kildinan, Fermoy and Bartlemy areas as well as elsewhere. Last month, Ballynoe was left without delivery of post due to ‘unavoidable operational issues’, however, An Post later reported that normal services had resumed in the area. It is understood that post was delivered to homes in some areas on Sunday to help clear the backlog.
