A new service providing local access to diagnostic services (x-rays, ultrasounds and Dexa scans) for patients attending the Livinghealth Clinic, Mitchelstown is now available.

The service which is wholly funded by the HSE is a joint initiative between the GPs in Mitchelstown, HSE and the Mercy University Hospital Radiology Department.

The new service will enable people in the Mitchelstown/Fermoy area and environs, to avail of a range of diagnostic tests at the Livinghealth Clinic rather than having to travel to Mallow General Hospital or hospitals in Cork city.

Welcoming the news, Yvonne Finn-Orde, HSE General Manager, Cork North said, “A key priority for HSE South is to improve performance in Emergency Departments (EDs), with a particular emphasis on reducing / eliminating numbers of patients waiting for admission for more than 6 hours. This new service in Mitchelstown will ensure appropriate referrals to EDs through improved access to diagnostics locally and ensures that patients can access appropriate services nearer their home”.

The service will be accessed by the public through GP referral only. The GPs in the area welcome this proposal as it builds on the already good working relationships between the GPs and the HSE.

Frank Doheny, General Manager, Livinghealth Centre said the service will benefit greatly the patients of the North East Cork area in giving them easy and timely access to essential diagnostic services in their community.

"We are hugely appreciative of the HSE’s efforts and commitment in locating this service in Mitchelstown and we look forward to working closely with our colleagues in the HSE in ensuring the success of this innovative service going forward,” he said.
