The HSE have confirmed to The Avondhu this week that the new eight-bed Dochas Ward of Fermoy Community Hospital is ready to be opened, hopefully in the autumn of this year, once HIQA are satisfied that the unit is fit for purpose and passes registration.

However, regarding other sections of the building, namely Cuisle and Sonas, more works are required before the registration process can be passed.

The HSE’s announcement come on foot of a recently-published HIQA report on the facility, of an inspection carried out in January this year. The detail of that inspection hereunder, outlines some of the negative findings of that inspection, a number of which the HSE have resolved since. Pending registration from HIQA, the organisation hopes to have the Sonas section open this autumn as well, while saying that in the third section, Cuisle, works are ‘progressing well’.
