The N73 closures between Mallow and Mitchelstown are likely to go until July, say Cork County Council. Originally slated to be finished in March, the diversions in place due to the roadworks must be endured for a little longer than anticipated.
With residents in the area now familiar with the potholes that litter the surrounding roads, one local resident said he had given up washing his car entirely, while Cllr Frank Roche vowed that if he needed to go from Shanballymore to Herbert’s Cross again, he would only do so with a tractor.
The condition of the ‘Bog Road’ in Shanballymore has particularly deteriorated, and the councillor asked the public to bear with the council, and acknowledged there was ‘no point’ in doing the roads until the N73 is reopened.
