Mondaniel residents call for pedestrian and cyclist safety as around 40 local children unable to walk to school

Mondaniel residents have been calling for a footpath and cycleway to be put in place from Mondaniel to Rathcormac village as some 40 local children are unable to walk or cycle to school despite being only a 10 minute journey away. Residents of the Mondaniel area in Rathcormac are calling for action as despite being only around a kilometre from the village, some 40 children living in the area are facing high speeds and a dangerous stretch of road If they wish to walk to school.

Locals have been calling for a footpath from Mondaniel Cross to the village for around six years now, however, to no success, and with changes in the road layout, are now facing a treacherous journey walking or cycling to and from the village.

In a letter penned to Cork County Council members, the residents noted that the former N8, now the R639, has been the concern of many parents for years due to the lack of a footpath for some 40 children who reside in the Mondaniel area and attend the village school.
