A pilot initiative in Cork involving CBS Primary School and Bunscoil na Toirbhirte will see the schools provided with 10 recycled bicycles as part of the county's first safety cycling hub.
The bicycles will form part of the Schools' Safe Cycling Hub, and their teachers will be the ones teaching them the skills. Caroline Casey, Road and Water Safety Officer with Cork County Council, spearheaded the initiative while Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Gillian Coughlan, launched the initiative on Wednesday, at Bunscoil na Toirbhirte.
The Avondhu was on-site to witness the collaboration between Cork County Council, Cork Sports Partnership, and teachers and students of both schools.
Community Garda John Hennessy was present to oversee that bells and lights were working, and welcomed the move to get people safely cycling from a young age.
