A large amount of shoppers and market stalls thronged the Mitchelstown Square last Thursday, as the town continued to re-open after lockdown.

The main square was busy in hot, blazing sunshine, with some shoppers wearing face masks on what is traditional market day in the town. 

The Avondhu paid a visit to the gathering and was confronted on a number of occasions by stall holders who refused to give their names and told the newspaper to leave. 

The hostility was largely widespread, but a number of stall holders did interact and spoke about their hopes of getting back on their feet. 

John O’Brien’s stall was dedicated to all equipment needed to keep shoppers safe from contracting Covid-19.
