This year's St Patrick's Day parade in Mitchelstown, was the biggest yet, according to the Festival of the Galtees committee who were working hard behind the scenes to make sure that the whole day went off without a hitch.
The committee thanked everyone who took part, from both the town and surrounding areas, Sergeant Aidan Dunne and the gardai for their help, Jimmy Murphy of Murphy's garage, the Mitchelstown Business Association for sponsoring the prizes for the business people and publicans and the Festival of the Galtees committee who organised the event.
There were a number of fantastic groups, organisations and clubs who took part in the parade and the most outstanding were duly recognised with prizes and awards.
In the lead up to the parade, the windows of the businesses came alive with colour and vibrancy and the Best Dressed Window went to Flowers By Una, with second prize going to The Dolls House and third to Shapers.
The Best Themed window first prize was nabbed by L'il Bo-tique, the Oznam Centre took second place and Mitchelstown Youth Cafe came third.
Prizes for Best Traditional Window went to Tim Forde in first place, Pricesavers in second and Le Visage in third place. While the best pub interiors were An Bodhran, The Ramble Inn and The Hunter's Rest.
Other prizes were as follows: Ballylanders Macra won best float, Curraghagalla Community Group were the most colourful, the best tots were Ballylanders and Curraghagalla Community Group, the best teens were GAA ladies and boy scouts and the walking group honours went to the Ladybirds, Scoil Mhuire na Tire and the Brownies.
