The strategic location and relatively low traffic flow at New Square in Mitchelstown, makes it an ideal setting for the annual Christmas lights 'switch on' which took place on Saturday evening last. 

It proved to be perfect 'switch on' weather – seasonally crisp and dry. Well publicised and traditionally a massive crowd puller, the public began assembling well in advance of the 5pm countdown.

'Switch on' entertainment came courtesy of the CBS junior choir, who looked and sounded impressive. Under the baton of school principal Mary O'Callaghan, the boys worked their way through a programme of popular carols and well known hymns.
