A design for the Mitchelstown Georgian Quarter has been revealed with a focus on trees, green areas, safety and accessibility.
While elected members had a chance to review the plan earlier in the month, at a Fermoy MD meeting on Tuesday they voted to go ahead to the next step, the public submission stage (Part 8 planning).
Sean O’Callaghan, Senior Executive Engineer described the ambitious plan as “quite a transformative project… a once in a lifetime chance.”
He remarked that the square is about the size of another famous plaza: “Everyone knows Eyre Square in Galway, why shouldn’t everyone know New Market Square in Mitchelstown?”
