During the past two weeks, Mazda has offered test drives of the all‑new Mazda CX‑5 to European media in Barcelona, Spain. The third generation of Mazda’s long-term bestseller evolves the model’s strengths with refined Kodo design, enhanced Jinba Ittai driving feel, a roomier cabin and luggage area, and an optimised 2.5‑litre e‑Skyactiv G engine.
With more than 5 million units sold globally and 850,000 units in Europe, the Mazda CX-5 is one of Mazda’s best-selling models. During its 14-year history, the CX‑5 was recognised as a World Car of the Year top three finalist in 2018 and won prestigious European accolades like the UK’s “What Car” Awards and Germany’s Auto Zeitung “Auto Trophy” in its category.
The exterior of the third generation retains the CX‑5’s recognisable silhouette while adding a more robust stance and more assertive proportions. The interior is even roomier than before. With rear doors widened by approximately 70 mm, and generous knee space that you would not expect in this segment, the second row allows easy access and convenient child seat operation. The boot measures 583 litres and expands to 2,019 litres with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded, 381 litres more than in the previous generation.
The 2.5‑litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine with Mazda M Hybrid technology improves everyday response and comfort and is available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Chassis and suspension updates enhance ride comfort and handling, while the towing capacity remains at 2,000 kg.
The new HMI adapts Mazda’s human-centric approach to enable the simple and intuitive use of an increased number of vehicle functions. The system introduces a new centre touchscreen, a 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster, and a large head‑up display. Essential functions can be controlled by capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and voice control.

With Google built-in standard for the first time in a Mazda, the all-new CX-5 launches with Google Assistant and will later be upgraded to Gemini2, the AI assistant from Google. This enables connected navigation via Google Maps, voice interaction, and access to many apps via Google Play. The all-new CX‑5 also debuts an expanded ADAS suite with a Driver Emergency Assist, a Proactive Driver Assist for smoother cruising, and a 360° View Monitor with an underfloor view.
Across the model line-up, the all-new Mazda CX-5 offers more equipment than its predecessor, and the new Prime-Line entry grade has more features onboard than the previous Centre-Line. Mazda estimates that almost two thirds of the all-new CX-5 buyers in Europe will select the upscale Exclusive-Line or the Homura top grade.
Responding to this, Mazda offers a wide range of accessories for its bestseller model tailored for families and people with an active lifestyle. Model-specific items range from aero kits and additional wheel options to practical items like a retractable towbar, a dog guard, roof bars and mud flaps.
Each accessory has been developed specifically for the CX-5. Customers can rely on perfect fit and seamless integration into their vehicle.
With its comprehensive packaging and competitive positioning, the all-new Mazda CX‑5 aims to extend the model’s long‑standing success in Europe.
