A community effort, based in Fermoy, has produced thousands of plastic face shields and frames for frontline health workers in recent weeks.

Business people, schools and individuals all came together to assist in the effort to produce the personal protective equipment (PPE), which has been coordinated by the Healy family in Fermoy.

Using 3D printers and plastic sheets, the group’s efforts have managed to ensure that a constant supply of face shields and frames is reaching hospitals, GP practices, dentists, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities throughout Cork and further afield.

“We may have made the visors, but we got the equipment and plastic from so many sources. Schools from Mitchelstown, Fermoy, Clonmel and Midleton all got in touch and provided equipment,” Norah Healy told The Avondhu.
