Low uptake in Beef Data Genomics Programme in Cork

Just shy of 2,000 Cork farmers have applied for the new Beef Data Genomics Programme, from a total of 5,958 suckler cow herds in the county, figures from the Department of Agriculture reveal.

Cork East Fianna Fáil Councillor Kevin O’Keeffe says the low uptake of the Beef Data Genomics Programme in the county is a clear indication that the scheme is a bad deal for farmers. Figures released to Fianna Fáil from the Department of Agriculture reveal that while there are almost 6,000 suckler cow herds in Cork, less than 2,000 farmers have applied for the new programme.
