Council ‘not in favour’ of converting estate’s green area for car parking

A proposal to install car parking by converting some green space at Moher Crescent in Mitchelstown was shot down at the Fermoy Municipal District meeting on Thursday. Cllr Deirdre O’Brien motioned that the council install car parking spaces, replacing some of the plentiful green area.

In response, Darren Kenneally, senior executive engineer at Cork County Council, stated that the Fermoy MD office is not in favour of the request. 

“This office is not in favour of this request as it would detract from the open space that is available to the area. (There is) No funding in place to support same,” he said.
