There has been a strong response amongst business-owners in Mitchelstown to last Thursday’s announcement that the annual Indiependence music festival would not be held in the North Cork town in future years. 

The festival announced last Thursday that ‘with a heavy heart’ they saw no option but to look for an alternative venue for their festival. 

“This is not the end of Indiependence,” festival organisers wrote in a statement released on their social media channels and in a press release last Thursday.

“We are looking to the future, to something new. Unfortunately, we cannot do that in Mitchelstown in the foreseeable future.”

The reasons behind the decision remain unclear.
