There is now even stronger local representation on Cork County Older People’s Council (OPC), as Fermoy’s Christy Roche and Mitchelstown’s Liz Downes have taken key positions on the committee following last week’s AGM.

Held in the Kingsley Hotel in the city, a new executive committee was elected that sees Ms Downes assume the role of Chair, while Christy Roche is the incoming PRO. Eleanor Coughlan from Clonakilty takes on the responsibilities of vice-chair.

On Wednesday evening, Mayor Frank O’Flynn from Glanworth, lauded outgoing chair Liz Maddox from Castlemartyr for her instrumental role in guiding the Older People’s Council through challenging times, particularly during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. A presentation was made by the Mayor and the Chair of the Cork County Council Age Friendly Alliance, Niall Healy, to Ms Maddox.

The Older People’s Council extends a warm welcome to new members, inviting them to join a council that empowers older adults to play an active role in their communities. Membership is open to all County Cork residents aged 55 and above, and can be easily accessed through the Cork County Council website.
