Five volunteers from The Avondhu area are heading off to aid the Kenya Project in November. They are Brian Walsh and Robert Hanna from Mitchelstown, Fiona O’Donoghue and Margaret Fitzgerald from Ballyporeen and Jim Hannigan from Ballindangan.

Brian has planned a fancy dress night in Willie Andies on the 26th of October with food and music on the night plus prizes for the best dressed while Fiona and Margaret have a cake sale organised for the 20th and an ’80s Night’ on the 26th, both of those events in Ballyporeen.

The five will be going to a children’s home in Nairobi and will be joined by other volunteers there as they help families living with aids.

“We have collected a lot of clothes for the kids and lots of sleeping bags also and we would like to thank everyone for their support with this, as we very much appreciate it,” Robert Hanna told The Avondhu.

“I would also like to say a big thank you to SuperValu for all their support and for allowing me to have a bag pack there on Thursday 24th.”
