The Board of Management of Coláiste an Chroí Naofa in Carraig na bhFear has expressed its horror at the recently published results of a report into sexual abuse in schools run by religious orders, in which the school was named alongside 307 others across 22 counties including a number of other schools in The Avondhu readership area.
The Scoping Inquiry into Historical Sexual Abuse in Schools run by religious orders was published on Tuesday and shows that 42 allegations of sexual abuse were made against four alleged abusers in Coláiste an Chroí Naofa in Carraig na bhFear, which was under the trusteeship of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart at the time.
According to the report, the incidents of sexual abuse throughout the report were mostly described as having occurred between the early 1960s and the early 1990s, with the highest number of reported incidents occurring in the early to mid-1970s.
