Local patience rewarded as N73 opens ahead of schedule

After many years of waiting, and many months of hard work by Sorensen Civil Engineering, the Clogher Cross to Waterdyke section of the N73 was opened on Wednesday, just in time for the upcoming St Patrick’s Day bank holiday weekend.

At 3.30pm, The Avondhu was on the Kildorrery side of the barrier with Cllr Frank Roche. Bookending proceedings, Cllr Frank O’Flynn was on the other side of the three kilometre section of road with some locals who’ve lived alongside the problematic road for decades.

Workers told those waiting, including the few ‘chancers’ who drove down the road optimistically to get to Mallow, that it would be another hour before access was granted.
